Hello All,
Great to have a place where fantasy fans can congregate.
Love JVJs work. Have read all books to date.
Enjoy fantasy and RPG's. Currently EQ2 addict.
Warning to those who have not read the Book of Words - I stacked on the kilo's when reading this series. Nobody makes food sound quite as good as JV.

When I was in grade 6 my dad took me to the Indigo Bookstore in the Yorkdale mall, he said I could pick one book from the sale bin, Cavern of Black Ice was there for 14$ so I randomly grabbed it, I never knew it would be such an amazing book! I read it and re read it so many times then finally when I was in grade 9 or 10 the Fortress of Grey Ice came out, I've got to admit, it really left me hanging, I've checked this website almost every other month for the last year seeing when the third book would come out, and finally, it is here:). I decided to reread the first two books before reading the third, and am on the last couple chapters of fortress. I have to admit, you are an amazing author, there are not many books I can read and read again and not get tired of. When I got the first book I was really young, and didn't really understand it until grade 9 haha.
Keep up the good work, you're an amazing writer, and there aren't many books I enjoy reading from your genre so I am glad I've finally found one series that's got me addicted.

JV Jones is one of my three favorate authors. The others are CS Lewis and JK Rowling. Note that they all English fantasy authors.
I was lent The Baker's Boy by a friend and I thought it was the best book I had ever read. It really is a good book but right now I think the Silver Chair is my favorate.
I really like two aspects of Book of Words and Sword of Shadows. I love the assassins. They are always my favorate characters in her books. I am also happy with the secret passages that we find many buildings. I wonder if really palace's have secret passages but whether they are realistic or not they are very fun and so well described. I can remember how it felt to walk though all those damp rooms, narrow halls, and dark tunnels.

Hello! My name is Ty and I'm 24. I am finishing up my last year in law school and am finally getting back to being able to actually read for fun, rather than merely reading the plethora of books for my classes. I stumbled upon A Cavern of Black Ice at my local library, fell in love, and immediately checked out a Fortress. Once I finished that, I went out and bought A Sword. I love the series as well as J.V. Jones' writing style. I decided to sign up here to help get through the tough wait for the next book. I sure hope this helps me out!

That's what I'm hoping with the forums .. that we can distract each other for long enough till JVJ finishes up the books . _________________ | Quote: | | Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back. |

Greetings!
I've been reading sci-fi/fantasy ever since I picked up LOTR many, many moons ago.
There's a whole lot of mediocre fantasy/sci-fi books out there, but I'm happy to say that once you weed out the garbage, jewels like the books from JV Jones come shinin' through.
I don't know if I can stand the wait for the next book coming after Sword from Red Ice.....please....JV...take us back to Raif, Effie, Drey, Raina, Ash, the Sull...etc..SOON!!
I'll miss Anwyn Bird....her murder just broke my heart....

And a dollar short, story of my life. I just found out about the message board and Sword From Red Ice, go figure, that's what I get for spending all of my time playing LOTRO and WOW.
As I contemplated what to write in this empty little space I though about stating that I first got hooked on fantasy when I was 16 and read the Hobbit for the very first time, then I remembered..... there was a Scholastic Book Service book, (the kind you order when your are in elementary school), that I read long before my encounter with Bilbo, Gandalf and their nefarious band of dwarves. It was a book called The Firestarter, and although I have no recollection of who the author was it got me hooked. The Hobbit just helped to sink the barb.
I read The Book of Words trilogy some years back and was fascinated, it was so well written and plausible that it sucked me right along. It was some time later that I read The Barbed Coil and the Sword series. I am currently reading SFRI.
I appreciate the dedication and passion that you put into your works Ms Jones and although I am a fantasy junkie, I would never attempt to undertake such a monumental task. Trying to imagine how one keeps all of the characters, places and events moving along a well laid out storyline is mind boggling to me at best. Thank you for your dedication to your craft and for helping your readers to catch a glimpse of what you see in your imagination.

Hi glad to see JV get her own message board. I have read all of her works except for Barbed Coil, which is just not my cup of tea. Be interesting to see if i could be convinced otherwise. I think her writing and imagination has grew stronger and stronger and though disappointed to have to wait for so long to read Sword From, I have to admit it was well worth the wait. I periodically have to remind myself that quality takes time.
I will try to write a a review of Sword From Red Ice over on Chronicles Network soon. Also be very cool to arrange an interview with JV for the site.

Hi JVJ and Paul,
I discovered JVJ's books about a year ago now, and I have enjoyed every single word! The worst part is catching up to the writer ... I can't wait for the next book! In the meantime, I guess I can always read them again...
Love your work!

This is my first time ever joining a forum, or ever posting a blog of any sort. I couldn't help myself though after reading Cavern Of Black Ice. I have to say it honestly changed my life. I'm currently reading Fortress Of Grey Ice, and am loving every word of it. I read the Barbed Coil too, and of course loved it. I have messed around with writing a little bit, but since reading JV have really committed. These books have inspired me so much, I can't even tell you. I am so excited to read every book she ever writes. Keep up this awesome work JV, I LOVE your books!

It's been a few weeks since I read through this 'Welcome' thread. I'd like to echo Unguru's sentiments and say a big HELLO to everyone who has joined the board recently. You can never have enough good people in one place!
As you browse through the posts here, I hope you'll find plenty to interest and entertain you. Although, with that in mind, it's probably best to skip through all of my messages.
Oh, and good luck with the writing, Sharla!
-Paul

Thanks for making me feel welcome here Paul and Unguru. I appreciate the encouragement for writing. It's hard because I know I have great ideas for my stories but putting them in words and in the best possible way is harder than I imagined. Trying to write makes me appreciate great authors like JV so much more. Man, I could just praise her all day long. But I won't. I think I'll go check out some other posts, this is kind of fun.
