this is even more exciting than the day i discovered grrm's livejournal.
my name is mimi. i'm a college senior working on a biology degree, but spending most of my time far too absorbed in fantasy novels.
i've been a devout jvj reader since discovering the book of words trilogy in middle school, and she is singlehandedly responsible for my love affair with fantasy. unfortunately, her books and grrm's a song of ice and fire series have teamed up to ruin all other fantasy novels for me. no other writers i've come across can characterize nearly half as well as them.

Hi, everyone.
JV, I'm tickled that you finally got a message board. I'm just so obsessed with your books that it's high time I found a healthy outlet for it. Your writing and imagination are awesome (and my preferred escape from reality). Looking forward to more from you!

Hello JVJ! ...and All
I just wanted to stop by and say hi after finding Ms. Jone's WebPage! Woot!
I recently finished the Book of Words trilogy and am happy to say I'm enthralled! I cannot wait to begin your Sword of Shadows (I'm trying SOoo hard to wait for it to be finished - yeah right!).
Frankly, it is becoming increasing rare to find a quality story teller, but I must say I have to force myself to put these books down! I cannot stop turning the pages!
JVJ -
I must thank you for sharing your gifts with us! I have enjoyed your gripping story lines, vivid images and ability to instill true emotions in me that I'm sure we all share with the passing of every page you write. Thank you SO much, for everything...
- J

hello to everyone. I am a long time fan, as are all of us of course. I started reading Baker's Boy because I wanted a good story that ended with one book. Oh, well, it was still an excellent read. I have been waiting for Red Ice to come out before I started reading the current series. Haven't had much time for it, but am enjoying it so far.

Hi all
I'm Cloud and I'm a huge fan of JVJ's books. I first found Cavern of Black Ice on a late night trip to the grocery store! I loved it so much I went and read the Book of Words trilogy while I was waiting for Fortress to come out. I thought I was going to DIE waiting for Red Ice! I loved it and I'm thrilled there will be more books in the series.
Like many others I do think there is a novel inside me. Maybe someday....

That's me as well, maybe someday. My wife keeps telling me I should write a book, but there is just no time. According to several big authors you should set aside a certain amount of time every day and do nothing but write, but I can never get on a schedule.

huh, I had no idea JV Jones' first name is Julie, learn something new every day.
Well, hello everyone. Name's David, and I'm from South Africa. Like a fair number here, I am also huge fan of GRRM and Neil Gaiman too also do some writing myself, had a fair number of shorts published the last couple years, but no novel yet (and for reasons that continue to baffle me blue, most of my published fic is horror. Teh Dark Side wants me..)
Anyhoo, confession time: it's been several years since I last read anything by JV, was the Book of Words series in fact, although me and my mates just called it Baker's Boy series.
Not wholly my fault, though, a lot of writers suddenly disappeared off our bookshelves during the mid-to late nineties but happily some of the stores are making positive strides in bringing more fantasy authors in again, and we have at least one excellent online store that's pretty jacked with stock. So now I can finally get to read the books that slipped through my greedy fingers in the way back when, like The Barbed Coil.
uhm, yeah, that's about it reallly.

Hello,
I've always thought that Book of Words along with some of Robin Hobbs' writing helped bring some fresh air to the genre. I had all but given up on finding anything interesting when Baker's Boy came out. I'm shamelessly re-reading Red Ice as we speak. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your effort. I've really enjoyed your books and I look forward to jumping in on many of these discussions I see in this forum.
Thanks again.
PS..if you need any help in the kitchen look me up. I'm no Jacque Pepin but I get by.

Howdy Folks.
Avid fan of JVJ. Read her books as they came out. Although not the Coiled Barb single novel from memory. Hmmmm.
When Cavern came out, new it was more than good. Even spent useless energy trying to tell folks on the GRRM message board (big fan of his) about JVJ and Cavern, defending the book. Saw the truth again that people believe what they want to believe.
I'm always gonna like to see the good. I know all writers have problems. But to me, if I can enjoy the books, awesome.
Take David Gemmell. I absolutely love his books. He's not complex like GRRM or JVJ. But I can read his books over and over in a very short span of time. They are like a good comic. Or Asterix. Pick em up, spend an afternoon with Druss or Waylander.
Ahem. Seem to be rambling.
Hello and hope to be a part of this community. Kudos to the Jones' (spl?) for giving us the opportunity to form a community.
If your reading this JVJ, and if you keep emails longer than 7 years .. I email you a few times, many long years ago. Name: Stuart Andrews.

When I was 9 I moved from the US to Italy, where it rained constantly, so I spent much of my time in the library at school reading. One afternoon a book called Giftwish by Graham Dunstan Martin literally fell off the shelf, and because it had a unique cover I decided to read it. (I know, that is a terrible reason to read a book, but we all do it at some time or other! That is why cover art consumes the book's jacket, with only a blurb or two on the back.) Giftwish opened me to the speculative fiction genre, and before I moved back to the States, I found Baker's Boy in the Navy Exchange. It quickly jumped to the top of my list of favorite books (along with A Man Betrayed and Master and Fool...of course!) where it stayed until more recently it was usurped by the Sword of Shadows series.
So that is me. I'm afraid I lead a very droll, mundane life, and I am going to say very little myself on this site. I do, however, look forward to reading your posts. You are all terribly interesting characters yourselves, and I assure you I am thoroughly enjoying every post I read.
Thanks all!

There are soooo many books I've picked up just because I liked the cover artists. Anything with a Frazetta on the front comes home with me. I picked up Baker's Boy because it had the same artist as the Wheel of Time books. Juliet Marillier's books were done in the same style as Jacqueline Carey's, etc., etc. Now a days, though, I generally stick with if it's at least 500 pages long and put out by TOR (and I haven't already read anything by that author that sucks) it comes home with me. Lemme tell you, Steven Erikson's Malazan books are really cool so far - but the art work sucks.
And I rarely read any of the blurbs on the books. Unless I'm really really bored and have read everything else. _________________ "The Alliance ain't the good guys. They're the opposing faction." ---Sam Shepherd or Stephen Howie

Hi, I'm Phill, and I've dropped in to check up on one of my favourite authors
I started reading jv back with The Baker's Boy and have followed it through from there, switching to hardbacks with The Barbed Coil.
Just finished up reading "Red Ice" and loved it. I'm so charged up for reading more, but like all of you will have to content myself with re-reads again whilst I settle in and wait

Hi there
I just stumbled upon the message boards today - I typically check the jvj website randomly to see what new things are coming up. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything jv's written (started with The Barbed Coil, then moved on to the Book of Words trilogy, but the Sword of Shadows is by FAR my favorite - I haven't found a character yet that I don't love - or love to hate ), and I'm a fledgling writer myself, so I am looking forward to meeting all of you here!
