Hello everyone. I have been a heavy fantasy reader for years but just recently came across JV's books. I am enjoying them and it led me to discover the site. I always enjoy it when authors reach out to their fans and participate in message boards. Glad to have found the books and the site.

Hello everyone
I am so syked that there is a message board up!
My name is Kay. I picked up 'A Cavern' when I was 13, and til this day it's my favourite book. It's just amazing. I haven't read the Book of Word series but have read 'Book of Words' which was a pleasant read. But I love 'A Sword of Shadows' - you can really see the leap in progression in JV's writing. Fave characters are Raif, Vaylo and Raina. Any chapters to do with the world of the clans has me hooked! ^^

Hello there!
Gosh! A message board from JVJ - how cool is that!
I am 28 years old now, and from Germany. My first JVJ novel was "A cavern of black ice" but in the meantime i did read the Book of Words trilogy as well, of course.
As I've birthday in a few days I really hope someone has "A Sword from Red Ice" as a gift for me:-)
Just have to know how it all goes on...

Hello! I have been reading JVJ since about '96 when I was given The Book of Words Trilogy. Hers was the first fantasy book I ever read, so she is responsible for introducing me to SF/F and all it's great works. I have yet to read ASFRI. I will be going to the bookstore on payday!

Hiya!
Seeing a messageboard here is so awesome. Especially with the author popping in and keeping in touch with the readers. In risk of kissing up, there is nothing in my mind that compares to the sword of shadows series. As (wannabe) writer myself, I find it very inspiring. Just the way the writing style changes from say, Effie chapters to Marafice, nevermind the compelling story and great characters.
I picked up the first book (which over here in germany was split into two books) to have "random stuff" to read on a long plane flight. Long story short I've been hooked on this most intense story I've had the pleasure reading and waited with great anticipation for Red Ice.
When I read it, I still was under the impression of a trilogy and I admit I was very perplexed during the final 100ish pages, hence my coming here to find answers. More books! I'm a happy man
In closing I'd like to say, the long wait was ALL worth it! It is another great chapter in a great story. Even if a few name mixups slipped past into print, its nothing and I entirely enjoyed the book and the hours of sleep it stole from me were a good investment.
I did not care to wait for a translation release when I noticed it was released, fetching it as quickly as I could. I'll look forward to the next releases!
JV, thanks for making my year despite leaving me on another cliffhanger

Hiiiiiiiiii *waves*
A message board....awesomeness.
Anyways.....since this is the intro thread, I should introduce myself. I am Luna....at least that is what I go by and am quite content with it. Let's see...I live in Southern California...at least that's what is says on the maps.
I picked up my first book...The Baker's Boy, back in *thinks* 1999....or 2000...one of the two. I found it by accident, if you will, at Barnes and Nobles on their staff selections shelf. I was looking for something new to read and thought 'what the heck' and gave it a try. There was no going back after that. I've even had to replace books because I read them over and over so much they were falling apart.
When this last book came out...I squeed in the bookstore when I found it on the shelf and gave my husband puppy eyes until he agreed to let me get it. HA! The power of the puppy eyes work again. Now I am almost done and shaking my fist knowing I have to wait longer to see what happens next. >_< curses!
Oh well...that is part of my intro....I am a patient Luna...for the most part. I am happy to be a part of the message boards and to express how much I heart this series...and how much I heart JV as an author.

There's a fascinating interview from the Writer's Digest entitled 'Road to a First Novel', which helps explain the origins of The Baker's Boy. You can read it here.

Hey peoples,
Just another person who likes to read stuff, especially about magic, swords, and people who content themselves by being evil.
I've read the 'Book of Words' trilogy quite a while back, and always felt the story was nicely paced. It sort of hit the spot for me like a good slice of apple pie with some milk.
So when I found 'A Cavern of Black Ice' at my local bookstore and realized it was written by J.V. Jones herself, I knew I found a new snack. Two days later, I went to the store and bought 'A Fortress of Grey Ice.' I just now found out 'A Sword From Red Ice' is out because of your website, so I have to get on the ball there.
Not many books make me want to breeze through them because I'm intrigued. I thank you for the adventures you give me.

[Ey up! (local Nottingham greeting) it's Jus here. Pleased to see you've set up this message board jvj. Reading fantasy books got me interested in the real thing i.e. historical novels, such as those by Sharon Penman, Bernard Cornwell, Conn Iggulden. This in turn brought me back to fantasy novels. These days I'm pickier than I used to be, as I like a story to have a convincing setting, and a good description of the landscapes, cultures, clothing etc. It really helps me to immerse myself in the tale. Hats of to you jvj, you've done a grand job, especially with your Sword and Shadow series. I'm waiting for "A Sword from Red Ice" to come out in paperback. I also recommend Sarah Ash's Tears of Artamon Trilogy. Hopefully will posting more in future, and speaking to some other folk. Cheers folks, Jus

Hi there.
I stumbled back onto this site after asking for A Sword from Red Ice for Christmas. I remember swapping emails with jv years ago complimenting her on her work, and being so thrilled with the replies I received.
Now, being on a short hiatus from the fantasy genre I'm hoping miss Julie will lure me back again.

't is distantvoices speaking, from far austria, where the mountains are high and covered with snow at this time of the year.
I used to write stuff years ago, ere I've changed my mind and turned to developing an Operating System & all the stuff around this - which has been keeping me busy for six years in a row now - nearly as much time as I've spent for that big story I've written - a retelling of "the little mermaid" in a quite cruel modern ice age setting - it started funny and turned into a thriller. Well ... the characters strolled throu my head and did stuff at their whim. All I could do is watch how the story unfolded. Yeah - The inner Eye is something cool.
Sometimes ... when I'm listening to a good tune after having had some cool coding session, I've got that feeling as if I could jump into some big story anytime again not to return to real life for many a year. It's just, that I can't imagine doing it at this stage in my life ... attending an university of applied science leaves only so much time for hobbies.
by the way, I'm gonna fetch Sword from Red Ice from a bookstore in the days to come for I've placed a very delicious order there. *hehe*
@J.V. You've got that knack of writing stuff. Vivid imagination is not all. One has to have the ability to wrap stuff seen by the Inner Eye into words that fit so others can follow into that land one's traversing in the mind. In short, I find your stuff entertaining and likeable to read. stay safe and keep on line churning.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Vince and I have been reading JV Jones for a few years now. I read all of the Word books and was really impressed. I like how she can be grity and humorous at the same time. I look forward to the new book Sword from Red Ice.

Greetings from Canada.
Just finished Sword of Red Ice, I'm both dismayed and elated there's a fourth novel coming in the series...and from what I can gather from browsing this forum, a fifth as well??
I've only read the Sword of Shadows series, but I'll be picking up the Book of Words trilogy to read over the holidays.
I love the series Julie. I often find fantasy writing to be a rehashing of previously published works so it has been a delight to read such a fresh and engaging tale in the Sword of Shadows. I look forward to reading your other works.
Cheers
ps distantvoices....wouldn't be the Sky OS would it??

Hi Kiru and welcome to the board. You have the distinguished honor of being our 50th registered member! That's the good news. The bad news is we haven't got you a prize or anything. Seriously, though, we welcome you and all the other good folks who've joined since we started a couple of weeks ago.
Cheers, -Paul
