I only just joined the Forums , but thought it was an important Question that HAD to be Asked lol .

Who would like to see a connection threw old characters such as tawl and jack in some way to find out how their lives ended up . Did Tawl marry mili , Did jack end up on his own or have a family , did Nabber join the Knights ? I know that if they were in the new books to promonatly they would detract from the new main characters , but I thought it would be nice to have some what of a closeing etc on the tale from Book of Words , what are your thoughts??

umm i would? lol. jack is ash's father. ash is 16 probably 17 or 18. that would make tawl in his late 20's possibly early 30's. i would also like to know what forced tarissa into the mountains to full fill the profecies of the reach being born outside of a gate that faced a mountain.

There already is a link between the two series: namely, Baralis.

Not to mention the fact that, like BCD, I suspect Ash is Jack's daughter.

I think we'll be seeing an explanation for all this soon enough!

There's another connection no one's pointed out yet... They're both written by the same author! :O

It's been a while since I started the swords series (I was very grateful for the story so far section at the start of the book.), and even longer since I read Book of Words. I knew they were set in the same world, but I originally thought the stories were quite a bit separated time wise. Obviously, the presence of Baralis showed that the timing differences are not that great.

I just finished sword from Red Ice tonight, and the more I read, the more I wonder about Jack. He was so powerful magically, I have to imagine that he would have to notice, sooner or later, what was going on in the north. (I do like the theory I've seen in the forums that Jack is Ash's father.) If he doesn't ever make an appearance in the Swords series, I'm going to be quite puzzled as to why, but on the other hand, he's so powerful if he does show up then I think he would have an extremely disruptive effect on the plot of swords.

I'd be curious to see what other people thoughts are on this or what Jack could be up to that would explain him not at least making a trip north to see what's making all the magical noise.

I am a recent member, but when trawling through threads for the Shadows series, I think somebody somewhere mentioned that Raif might be the son of Tawl & Melli, but had to be raised elsewhere (Angus Lok would be link as he seemed to recognise Ash as Tarissa's daughter)? At first I scoffed to myself but I have recently reread the sword series & either in Fortress or Red Ice there is a mention of Raif celebrating his birthday at two different times & he doesn't know his exact day of birth. He remembers celebrating with his mother at one time & at a different time with his father, Tem. I wish I could remember the exact Book & quotes, but it did jump out at me as I'd just been reading about the speculation. Also there is Raif's name, it isn't clan & as the maimed man Yusiff(?) points out, in his language Raif means stranger. Something to ponder on anyway. What do people think?

I think i said this in one of the other forums, but I love that there's a connection. I suspected as much when I first started reading and then Baralis turned up and so it was.

Like ulrichvonbeck I wonder about whether Jack is feeling what's going on...that seemed a major point in BoW (that others could feel powerful magic over distances) so it seems a logical possibility. And like Dashel I SO want to find out if Nabber's a knight (that would be awesome )

But the big question...is Ash Jack's daughter?...kinda scares me a little coz if she is, what the hell was Tarrissa doing alone and obviously running from something, to end up at the bottom of mount slain half dead? Where the hell was Jack?
