Video Games--Classic Shoot 'em ups

Halo I and Doom I are my favorites. Halo II was good, but I never cared for the areas as much.

Is there anything you don't have interest in? Wow. The person behind the author is interesting

My first ever shooter was Wolfenstein, a joke by todays standards but that was scary back in the day! I didn't really get back into shooters until Unreal Tournament and the series is among my faves now. I never played the early Doom's, but Doom3 was a frightening experience, a really well done game.
For some reason, I never did play any Halo game..probably because I was into mmo games for a good while and while great fun, they sure do suck away time!

More recently, I've played the amazing Bioshock and want to get my hands on Crysis/UT3 next.
Nothing like a good plain sraight up "brain-free" shooter to let go of everyday's frustrations :D

Oh man, I remeber the headaches I used to get playing Wolfenstein! I had a love/hate relationship with it. I loved to play but hated the headache I would end up with from playing so long!
The first Doom was ok but I agree with Doom3. I would get shivers playing it at times!

I'd probably laugh playing it now..but I still vividly remember that four armed stitched up frankenstein zombie, with the minigun in his chest.. Chasing me allll over the level, while the music would wreck my nerves. I was shaking! Haha

Bioshock is great and I also enjoyed Gears of War a bunch. Halo 3 is fun, but I got tired of it. The online matchmaking is great though. Overall I am fairly inexperienced as shooters go. Besides those above and the other halos, Half-life/counterstrike and call of duty 2 are the only others ive played.

Last FPS I played was the original Half Life. My dad's into them more than me, but I learned to play so that we could all play together. Family time.

The only shooters I have ever been into are the Halo games, I loved the first, like the 2nd very much but was deeply disappointed in Halo 3.

Way too short and not enough new weapons.

I like your style. Family settles down in front of the TV, frags some aliens. I don't think our family was ever that cool. :(

I'm going to go a different route and say the Max Payne games. These were classics for me because I found a certain replayability with them that I don't find with most games.

I can't wait for Remedy to unveil Alan Wake.

Space shoot 'em ups

Postby outsidein on Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:26 pm

I'm a bit retro. The last shoot 'em up game I bought was Gradius Advance on the Gameboy Advance. It was a real novelty being able to save in certain places. I remember when it used to be called Nemesis in the UK. I had Nemesis 3 cartridge on our MSX Toshiba (Japanese computer with a cartridge slot at back) when I was growing up in the 80s. I never got past the floating eyeball boss at the end of level 2. You couldn't save it back then, it was so devilishly hard!

One of the best FPS's I've played is also one of the best RPG's. DEUS EX FTW!!!

Ahem. Channelling my days of Warcraft 3 playing.

Deus Ex was excellent. Almost as good as Half Life. Not quite, but almost... Before DE and HL it had to be Hexen. Loved that game.

See, I'm of the opposite opinion. Half Life was good, but Deus Ex was just mind blowing.

Of course, we can stand around arguing all day, or we can just admit the truth .. that Daikatana was the best gave eva! Suck it down!

Ahem.
