I would like to go on record and say that The UK coverart is more pleasing to the eye than the US. the US artwork is very garish and doesn't do JV's work justice.
any other opinions??

I like them both, actually. However I do feel the UK cover fits the story of Red Ice much much better. It gives a looming feel of what is to come. Fits the whole theme of "setting up for the bang" that I feel is done in Red Ice. _________________ ~The Souldrinker~

The more I discover coverart from the UK the more I think that we sometimes do get ripped here stateside, though I have also come across novels where both covers are very unique and fit the content inside perfectly.
In my dream of dreams book collection I would have multiple copies of each item with their varying covers to compare and enjoy. _________________ Remember to always use fresh macaroni, if the box rattles throw it away.

Here in London there's my favourite shop in the universe, Forbidden Planet. They stock a lot of US editions. The cover art in general is, I think, not as good as the UK editions. I haven't the foggiest as to why!

I believe I saw an article on the SFX website which suggested a reason. The piece proposed that the US marked prefers more "brazen" or obvious covers. More colour, more dioramas etc.
JVJ herself, in her notes on her experiences getting her first book published, comments that she is accused of having "British disease"- favouring dark or bleak endings, where many Americans want a happy ending. I've heard the same said of assorted films. Evidently, despite a lot of shared values etc, there are distinct differences between the US and UK markets. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I prefer the UK art.

I wonder what they refer to as our need for happy tie-ups; US Fluffy Fever? Stateside Sappy Syndrome? American Angelic Affection Affliction? _________________ Remember to always use fresh macaroni, if the box rattles throw it away.

I'm not sure where I stand on the "happy ending" subject. If its a bad guy(s) vs good guy(s) story, then I like the bad guys (if one side is truly bad vs the other) to get their ass kicked and have some sense of closure on at least some of the main story lines by the end of the story (book, movie, etc...)
As for the book covers, I like the US covers better.
