So, if I post my thoughts on potential casting for a Sword of Shadows film, will you guys groan and rapidly click the 'back' button, or should we pursue this?

Ha ha .. I love that you've put a pre-emptive post before jumping in to the post. Nice.

I've got no problem. Having fun meshing the books with actors is not a bad way to wile away the time.

In another thread I cast Johnny Depp as Baralis for the Book of Words. Might change that and cast him as Raif for Sword of Shadows. Maybe Geoffrey Rush as the Dog Lord.

On a slightly different note - Any gal out there who hasn't seen Once upon a time in Mexico should definately watch it. Yes it is a violent shoot-em-up, but Johnny Depp and Antonia Banderas on one screen - you can't go wrong. Very Happy

Raif Sevrance - Josh Hartnett
Ash March - Evan Rachel Wood
Penthero Iss - John Malkovich
Raina Blackhail - Jennifer Connelly
Angus Lok - Brendan Gleeson
Mace Blackhail - Wes Bentley

For starters.

Now I hate Wes Bentley. That's not good.

Hmm Interesting,

I see Brendan Gleeson as more of a Dog Lord type character.

Here is how I see it:

Raif - I think a young no name is what is needed.
Drey - Karl Urban
Angus Lok - Clancy Brown, I would love to see him playing a good guy for once.
Penthero Iss - Gary Oldman or if you wanted an older man Christopher Walken, both have that quiet scary intensity for the role. Jon Malkavich is good, but Oldman and Walken would be oscar caliber in this role.

Mace Blackhail - Rufus Sewel
Dog Lord - Brendan Gleeson
Marafice Eye - Ron Perlman (hes a little old, but man would he rock this role)
Ash is hard, but I guess Evan Rachel Wood would work.

Raina Blackhail - I actuall see Kate Winslett as more of a Raina than Jen Connoly.

More to come.

Jennifer Connolly is a fantastic pick for Raina. That is fairly close to how I pictured her in my mind. Nice choice!

Now, Josh Hartnet as Raif? Try again. That dufus just wouldn't get it done. Sorry to blast this choice and not provide my own, but I agree with Sumigo in that a young no name needs to be picked.

Ok I am partly against this whole casting for SoS, (partly because I want to make the films myself only of JV doesn't sell the film rights to anyone...*cough* *fingers crossed*)

And basically apart from characters like the Dog Lord and Iss, I would cast no names as well - I mean, there is absolutely NO ONE out there at the moment who can even begin to fit the bill for Raif and Ash firstly, especially Raif. You would need someone who has the necessary gravitas at a young age, so I don't know, there is no one out there for me. I remember seeing a TV drama called Point Pleasant and the main girl in there sorta looking like how I thought Ash might be, but whether she could hold the role is another question. Basically I would need a proper casting session/auditions to answer this.

honestly i just cannot picture raif as a pretty boy. putting heartnett (spl) or any other type of way to attractive male in the lead is wrong.

i hate the guy, but i think the latest bond guy (cant remember his name) would be perfect for arc or mal.

effie would have to be dekota fanning. she has that creepyness to her that effie needs.

mace would have to be a pretty boy. he would need that almost charasmatic innocence to be believable.

you could never have christopher walken as iss. he is an awsome actor but his speach patterns would make iss' type of evil just retarted. Shocked . malkovich as well has an odd speach pattern that would not fit his role.

ron pearlman would be awsome for the eye. or maybe the guy who played riddic if someone taught him how to act.

i would love to see christian bale as angus. only if they made him older.

the guy who played the octopus man in the pirates movies would be a cool listener
ill post more when i think of them.

Anthony Hopkins is as intense as a Dog Lord should be.

If he wasn't that old, Brad Pitt would be silky enough to act as Mace.

When I envisioned Raina, she looked a bit like LotR's Enwn *lookup* Miranda Otto. Looks fragile, but can be very strong.

I do not know an actor young enough to play Raif at the start and old enough to play the old and burden bent Raif later on.
