I like this latest carnation (is that even a word?) of the site. Although I can still remember the first one. Mmmm, Bodger and Grift were very prominent. Ha ha.

phpBB is a pretty quality free option for forums. You can change stuff (if you have access to the server), but then you step out of the update cycle (etc), and it becomes hard to keep up. Of course, if you have a really good dev, then they don't break it, but add to it.

Ahem. Anyway. Kudos to the two of you!

Question: Have you guys looked into using an existing framework and engine? Like hooking up Wordpress, pushing Flex (or any number of other js frameworks) in, and customising to fit whatever design you want?

Wordpress is good. Not for everything though. And you already have an "engine" really, which is what the site is right now. But just wondering. It's a good adage to let someone else worry about what you don't need to, and let you get on with the stuff that matters (like writing content). Heh heh.

Also, I really like the blue colors. Very cool.

Best thing about the site by far is the community aspect (forums) and that the author and webmaster both post, worth much more than any redesign or modernisations. I remember when Peter F. Hamilton registered on the forums of a fan website I made ages ago, made my day! Don't think he ever posted though.
