Bodger & Grift; what can I say? Were those guys a riot or what?
They made me wonder about JVJ's sense of humor. It's more what I'd expect from a guy then a lady.

I kept expecting them to show up in Sword of Shadows after the absolutely amazing surprise of Baralis.

Every time I read a Bodger and Grift segment I cant help but picture Eric Idle's character from Monty Python going "Wink, wink, nudge, nudge eh?" "Does she go eh?" "Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, is she a goer?" "Eh, wink, whink, nudge, nudge!"

Humor's easier for me to write than serious stuff. Paul and I grew up living above a pub in England. I worked behind a bar from an illegally early age. It hones your wit....plus you hear a lot of guys talking a lot of nonsense about girls. Hence Bodger & Grift.

Well I really enjoyed the humor, JVJ. (ugh, what's that say about me? ) and maybe it’s just me but in today's overly politically correct world, it was like it was OK to laugh because it was character's created and written by a woman. Does that make any sense or am I just nuts?

Aaron - I've lived in the Charlotte area for about 20 years now. Where are you at?

As you say, Greg, when JV wrote about B&G you got to enjoy the wonderful forbidden humour without the PC guilt. At the same time, though likeable, the two characters were exposed as seriously ignorant.

I have to say, I put a bit of Mark (our older brother) into Bodger & Grift. Don't tell him!

B and G were always very funny and right on the mark as far as those types go... I still remember with fondness my B and G screensaver from many years back. It was truly classic. Tons of good one-liners there and some cool music too.

BTW Greg, I live about ten minutes or so outside Asheville in a small town called Canton. You still in Charlotte now? I have a few friends there.

I spent my younger days as first a soldier then doing construction, and I grew-up and rural coal-mining towns. So for good and bad, Bodger and Grift remind me of so many guys I've known. While many of those type attitudes are due to ignorance, a lot of the time it’s more a case of gallows-type humor that’s a product of a hard-lived-life. Now, that I'm in more of an urban and corporate type environment, I find myself missing the honest straight-up, I-am-who-I-am, type of personalities. I guess that's why I appreciate B&G's humor so much. Then again, I still love the 3 Stooges and the original Little Rascals too.

Aaron- Yes I still live in the Charlotte area. I envy your location. I've been hinting around with my wife about moving toward eastern/moutains NC for a while now, but haven't had much luck so far.

When I liked Bodger and Grift the most is when they were interacting with other characters or when Baralis was spying on them. I get a great sensation sometimes when characters that have been separate for the whole book meet. At the begining of the trilogy I think that the only decent relationship that Jack had with anyone was with Bodger and Grift.

The other thing important about them to me was they demonstated the concept that the lowly in Harvel Castle knew a lot of what was going on. I wonder where else this is true in real life.

Bodger and Grift what can i say a real aussie style of humour every time i read one i had to pass it to my mum to read she ended up reading the series after me and they were by far her favourite characters

I think it's amazing how one person as an author can become soooo many different people. You not only have to be yourself but you have to take on the personalities of made up people and it's amazing how believable they are! Bravo! Bodger and Grift were definitely a couple of my favs and I love their sense of humour. I also enjoyed the fact that all the characters started coming together as the story progessed and that to me made it seem like a well weaved tale!

I think everybody fell in love with these 2.
Imagine how cool they would be on the big screen. I am planting a seed here. JV don't you think it's time you did a JK Rowling and turned this series into a movie or 3?

I'm 165 pages into Baker's Boy, so I haven't yet had the full effect of Bodger and Grift. They certainly seem to be the comic relief for book1.
The first question would be, "who do you think should play these two characters on the big screen?" And the second question, "what should this movie be called?"

How about Mel Brooks and Marty Feldmen, staring in...
