For some reason the login never remembers me when I come back, even though I've checked the little box. LiveJournal, Blogger, MySpace, Paperback Swap, and all the other places I visit dialy remember me, so I don't think it's a cookie thing on my end. Anybody else have this problem? _________________ "The Alliance ain't the good guys. They're the opposing faction." ---Sam Shepherd or Stephen Howie

Not a problem here, but it might be cookie issue just for this specific site, did you try deleting just that? Your problem sounds remotely familiar but its been years since then and I've used other forum software for myself. Not much "behind the scene" experience with php other than being a mod back in the day, sorry. _________________ ~The Souldrinker~

Polign,
It could be one of two different problems. The first is that some forums recognize the I.P. address for the login and will only work for that address. So, if you are using a laptop and travel between home and work you may have a problem. The other problem is more common with the php forums (I administer one) if you visit more then one php forum and have a cookie saved it will overwrite a cookie from another php forum. This may only be an issue with earlier versions of php but it is hard to say what version other sites are using. I believe this specific forum is the latest version.
Hope that helped! _________________ Chuck Cassaro

I hope this problem isn't proving too irksome, polijn.
Firstly, auto-login will only work if you don't log-out. This may seem obvious, but it does trip some users up.
Secondly, as Cassaro has already said, your IP address is a key factor in the login process. As well as a single machine using multiple access points (at home, at work, etc) your IP address can also be changed dynamically by web accelerator software (such as that provided by Google and AOL). If you're using such a utility then it may well be the source of the problem.

hmmm, nope, I use the same computer all the time. I don't logout. I bet it's the other forum that my mother-in-law uses that kicks me out. I'm fairly certain that it's also a freeforum site. Solves that mystery. _________________ "The Alliance ain't the good guys. They're the opposing faction." ---Sam Shepherd or Stephen Howie

Ahh, it's a mother-in-law problem. I should have guessed.

Ha. My computer finally got itself fixed, and now that no one else is visiting other forums, I stay logged in. *joy* Mystery REALY solved. You were right. _________________ "The Alliance ain't the good guys. They're the opposing faction." ---Sam Shepherd or Stephen Howie

funny, I also had some initial problems in convincing the board that yes, when I say automatic log-in I mean it. Seems to be fixed now, but now it seems that none of my posts are showing up. I'm at a bit of a loss.
