anybody else remember how at first raif was only able be a good marksmen when it came to heartkilling. his brother was better then him when they had their little contest in the first book. then in book two when he heart killed(ed?) the dead boar in the maimed men place. before he was not able to do that. maybe heartkilling is just what comes easiest to him, but there is other application to the power that he has availible.

angus said that he once new another that could heart kill only not with men. the outsider from the the rift brothers can do more than one thing concerning magic.so can the other majic users from the south and the sull.angus considered rafs power the same as the sulls power saying that it is all derived from the old ones . who also died off and the sull took over their war against the blind.

also concerning the 9 lords and 9 gods doe's this mean that none of the dark lords ever got killed by the sword known as "loss". than how can anyone know it will work.

I would like to add the term "control". has anyone read the black magician trilogy by trudi canavan? she uses the concept of magic very much in the control way. you have it (natural ability) stronger or weaker (capacity/toll payment) and it sometimes breaks out of you without you wanting it (emotion) and if you want to use it well, you have to have a magical education/discipline/training and learn to CONTROL it. control as in using it when and how you want it.

Raif doesn't have much control over his abilities, neither has Effie. I think they could do much more with it, if they were thought how to.
