Julie,
Gary Vee came up with a very cool idea, and I've given my two favourite fantasy authors a big shout .. http://tinyurl.com/yt9o9n.
Thank you so much for all your work. You have inspired and brought me joy ever since I picked up that copy of Cavern with the 'Wonderful' quote on it all those years ago.

Stu, Thank you. Gosh it takes a lot to make me blush. But you managed it.
Well done. With that ability to talk into the camera you should be on the telly.

Hey, now who's making who blush!!
I've got a bundle of ideas about how we can use these new and awesome technologies in what we do (whatever that is). Spreading the word, generating excitement, social interaction.
I'm really glad you liked the video. I finally found a way to communicate with my favourite authors .

Stu, kudos to you, too, for that great video. I totally agree and feel that same sort of excitement for those two authors, JV and George. It’s hard to explain to some people about these authors, and a few others that rank up there for me (like Tad Williams). I see people reading this and that, and it’s hard, truly very hard for me not to think, “The authors and books I read blow yours out of the water,” you know what I mean. Then I say something to them like you should check out these guys: George, JV, Tad. At this point they give me this like “oh yeah” sort of reaction, like they don’t care. But they should care, ‘cause what they’re reading, in my humble opinion, just plain sucks in comparison. Whatever. They’ll just end up going to Reader Hell ‘cause they won’t convert, but at least a good many have converted. Die Harry Potter and all your mainstream, popular, juvenile, little cohort book buddies (Golden Compass, Chronicles of Narnia, and so on).
Anyway, liked your video, Stu. You’re a cool dude. And props to you JV.

Tharon, Cheers for the words. There's a lot to be excited about with authors like Julie and George, yeah and Tad . _________________ | Quote: | | Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back. |

While I totally agree with the sentiment regarding JVJ and George RR Martin, lets go easy on the other authors out there. I sure we all agree writing is a hard way to make a living - truly 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. (okay - unless you are writing for Mills and Boons )
I would like to add JK Rowling, of Harry Potter fame, to the Good People list. Her first book is aimed at a tween market and it was spot on. She is in many ways responsible for a lot of young people turning off the tv and picking up a good old fashioned book. Quite a feat in such a multimedia / digital era. Also have to mention the circumstances that she was in. Single mum whose husband did the dirty on her. Her own mum had passed away after a long and debilitating battle with MS and she was basically living of state benifits. Most people in her situation would probably be contemplating suicide or be on the fast track to being homeless alcoholic, but she turned it around for herself and her daughter - not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Now she is one of the wealthiest and most popular authors out there. Bet her ex seriously regrets mucking around on her now!

Witchary. I don't think there was a negative vibe towards other authors, it was purely a "i love these guys" message.
I wholeheartedly agree that writing must be a very hard way to make a living. And there are heaps of cool authors out there. Kudos to them.
So i'm not sure what you were thinking of with "going easy" on the other authors out there. But I'm happy to be shown the error of my ways. _________________ | Quote: | | Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back. |

Unguru - you are completely without error. I love the sentiment and really enjoy reading your posts. My "go easy" statement was more to do with ripping into mainstream books, and not so much to do with anything that you have said or written. I think that I may have come across as a bit obstreperous. I just felt the need to defend Harry Potter and fellow populars. Please accept my apology. I did not mean to cause offence, or put a negative spin on what is really an excellent frame of thought. Sorry about that.

Ha ha .. Witchary, I totally get where you are coming from. I like to defend Rowling and other mainstream folk as well, when people call them down for being lame. A whole gamut (?) of authors have brought me reading pleasure over the years. And for me, that's what counts. Doesn't matter that they don't put iambic pentameter (i don't even know how to spell that) or big long words or have thirty levels of sublime structure into their prose and wotnot.
No offense was caused. Good conversation was had . _________________ | Quote: | | Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back. |

LOL! I had to look that up. According to Dictionary.com your spelling is perfect too. For those of you who are as blonde as me:
iambic pentameter:
a common meter in poetry consisting of an unrhymed line with five feet or accents, each foot containing an unaccented syllable and an accented syllable.
Okay - I not even sure I fully understand the definition , but goes to show you do learn something new everyday.

Oops, didn’t think I would be causing an affront to anyone on this particular forum by mentioning my dislike for Harry Potter and such. My apologies to you guys; I got carried away. From now on I’ll keep those sordid feelings to meself. Oh, and thank you for your reply to creating metaphors, on the Advice for Writers post, Witchary.

Eh, no harm as far as I'm concerned, we all have our opinions about different things and I'm not really a potter fan myself I think we can co-exist with out opinion differences fine. Disagree with others all you want, but respect their opinions all the same..and that, is simply put, my opinion _________________ ~The Souldrinker~

But what if it's about Icecream? I mean, there's really only one opinion. Icecream and Wolvie being the best superhero ever. _________________ | Quote: | | Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back. |

No affont Tharon - I think I was being over-sensitive and came across a little too confrontationally. As I said before - I'm sorry for putting the negative into the positive here.
