Why is it that Bram is in the story as a major charecter? So far his story has been something of a side intrest. Why would JVJ put him in the story if he was unimportant though?

Bram evolved, thats a good way to put it. Yes initially he was just a little side guy but he grew as JV was writing and she became attached to him (and a hundred others) as time went by. That is in part why she all but started over writing Red Ice, the story pretty much took a live of its own and ended up in a direction she did not want it to go to.

Bram is likely to continue to evolve and truly, with JV you never know. Maybe he will never reach the libraries of the Phage that he dreams of. Maybe he will. Maybe he will live happily ever after or maybe he'll be a key in the upcoming war due to his unique talent.

Bram was first introduced as a character to provide a glimpse into the world of Dhoone and its would-be-king, Robbie. As soon as I began writing for him, he interested me. Small in a world of bulky hammermen, dark-skinned and brown-eyed in a world of blue-eyed blondes. Smart too--smarter than those around him. And vulnerable. Clan values might, not cleverness. So Bram lives in a world where his natural gifts will never be fully-utilized or appreciated. As to what part he has to play in the big story...you know how that goes. It would be telling.

I love Bram!! Somehow he reminds me of Drey... I don't know what part Bram will play in this story, but he's certainly one of my favourites.

One of the things I found interesting about him is how easily he broke his oath to Castlemilk. Perhaps it was because he'd only been there a few weeks/months and he didn't feel the same kind of loyalty he would have at Dhoone...? But after all Raif's heartache over his oathbreaking it seemed unusually easy for Bram to do so. I don't blame him! I would've done exactly that. The Phage holds far more interest than guidestones and swordpractice for him, I think. Also maybe Wrayan Castlemilk gave him the 'go ahead', so to speak, by presenting him with the stallion.

A question, I propose. If Bram was dreamt up as a character to give us insight into the slyness of Rab Cormac, who now will inform us of the dealings of Robbie Dun Dhoone? Raina? A new character? Who knows...

I reckon the "eyes" on Rab Cormac was a side-product of Bram's creation/thunk-up as a character.

For my twenty-three cents, I'd say Bram was created to give insight into the Phage. Granted, Angus gives some of it, but to me he'll always be the guy that tried to hold Raif back at Duff's.

Bram's an interesting character. First time round I didn't get into him, but then subsequent reads have opened my eyes to the possibilities with his character.

He meets up with some great folk. Castlemilk was a really cool place. I love the heritage Julie puts into everything, and Castlemilk was no exception.

But the Phage. They are major players in the background. And Angus is no longer an option for "eyes" to them, not that he ever really was.

So now we have Bram. Initiate of the Phage.

Bring it!
Death smiled as she withdrew. Kill an army for me, Raif Sevrance. Any less and I just might call you back.

I loved Bram from the first. Always been a sucker for the underdog, honestly.

I always look forward to his perspective and I agree with theUnguru that he will be our eyes into the Phage.

I love Bram too...the care he shows his horses, his observation skills and his attention to detail...I'm so glad JV decided to develop his character more :)
